I have just started using Kidspiration3 and I LOVE it! However for future releases, I wanted to suggest being able to use images in the math tools to create pictographs.
I am in the BTSA program and to clear my credential I need to join a forum and have other teachers review one lesson plan. I would appreciate any comments you have. I am new to this site.
ACADEMIC CONTENT STANDARDS:
9. Students compute the volumes and surface areas of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres and students commit to memory the formulas
10. Students compute areas of polygons, including rectangles, scalene triangles, equilateral triangles, rhombi, parallelograms, and trapezoids.
LEARNING GOAL
*Recognizing valid and invalid arguments in real world situations
*Using reflection to look for patterns that can provide insights about surface areas in the real world
PROGRESS-MONITORING ASSESSMENT: Through questioning and teacher-made lessons, quizzes, and assignments student will demonstrate understanding
MODIFICATIONS FOR FOCUS STUDENT 1: Using visuals and checking for understanding, will be needed for student 1 (English Learner)
MODIFICATIONS FOR FOCUS STUDENT 2: Using student strengths and identifying student’s developmental learning needs. Describe the lesson and provide a time allocation for each component. Include what you will do and what students will do. (If you have your lesson plan in a different format, copy and attach.)
PURPOSE: To enable students to verbalize and characterize the similarities and differences between polygons
MATERIALS: Paper, pencil, rulers, and poster paper
LESSON: ACTIVATE prior knowledge about polygons from graphic organizers. Have students discuss, explore, and refine their own definitions
COOPERATIVE GROUPS: Students discuss and complete the four categories for two different polygons on poster paper
APPLICATION/ASSESSMENT: Teacher will monitor the group poster and group presentation of group work to determine understanding
Anne,
I'm so glad to hear about your positive experience with Kidspiration 3! We love it here too :)
I will definitely pass on your suggestion to the Kidspiration team.
